About this event
Ninety-Two Degrees at One O'clock: Noah Towery Paints a Memphis Summer in Works & Days MEMPHIS, Tenn.—Memphis painter Noah Towery spent the summers of 2025 and 26 recording the city one moment at a time. The results make up Works & Days, now on view at the Bornblum Gallery in Southwest Tennessee Community College's Macon Cove Campus Library through October 30. The show includes some twenty-eight paintings, most titled by nothing more than the date, time, and temperature at which each was made.
The public is invited to an opening reception on Thursday, October 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. Titles such as 7.27.25 12:30 93f and 8.21.25 7:00 AM 78f read like entries in a weather log. The paintings stay close to home: backyards, a driveway at dawn, the Fairgrounds, and tree lines strung with power lines.
Towery works in loose, heavily loaded brushstrokes and saturated color, catching the glare and haze of a Memphis summer as it happens. Two large abstract paintings hang alongside as distillations of the landscape, carrying the same color and motion without the particularity of place. Towery is a painter, printmaker, and educator who lives and works in Memphis.
He holds an MFA from Temple University Tyler School of Art and teaches at Southwest Tennessee Community College
